Cole Lemalu Reebok CrossFit Canterbury Intern Programme 2011 I grew up playing most sports as a little fella, soccer, rugby, touch, volleyball, league, golf, tennis and athletics to name a few. I have represented New Zealand at age group levels. I am currently a sworn member of the New Zealand Police since 2003, I have specialised in Youth Crime, Education and I am now attached to the Community Relations Team as the Pacific Liaison Officer for the Canterbury District. How was I introduced to CrossFit? Honestly I was at the Ferrymead United Video shop ticking off my list caramel popcorn, fizzy and icecream (tick) all I needed was the DVD. The movie 300 was sitting on the shelf right in front of me, need I say more and yes I finished my popcorn, fizzy and icecream in record time! Hehehe. My little cousin Kyp who still WODs at the RCFC winter series and who now is a Certificate Level 1 trainer, brought me in for my first ever workout and I have never looked back since. What do I like about being a trainer? Simple... I just love helping people, as with my job as a Police Officer, I take great satisfaction in seeing the look on peoples faces when they have either just smashed a new PR under my guidance OR when someone makes it click for the first time kipping pullups, cleans or handstand push ups! My tips for CrossFit newbies... As the old saying goes, good things come to those who wait meaning you have to be patient and learn great form and technique. I believe that Theory can only take you so far, so I encourage you to Listen to the Coaches Ken and Nira. They have wealth of REAL experience and they have busted their asses enough times to know how to bust yours too! Or as my dad would say "do it, or I kill you" (serious) My moto is: Planning and preparation prevents piss poor performance. |
